Bahrain reduces visa fees

Bahrain has reduced its visa fees to boost tourism in the Kingdom.

A one-year visa now costs BHD40, down from BHD85 previously. The new fees will come into force in January 2020.

Visitors buying a five-year visa will be charged BHD60 instead of BHD170, according to a Cabinet-approved draft resolution.

The news comes after Manama was named Capital of Arab Tourism for 2020.

As part of the announcement, the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) unveiled a new logo and identity at the fireworks show held in Bahrain Bay for New Year’s Eve.

BTEA chairman Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani said, “The selection of Manama as the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2020 is a result of a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors.

“We are proud of the continual efforts put forward by BTEA including the vital tourism projects developed to further enhance the Kingdom of Bahrain’s tourism sector increasing its contribution of non-oil sectors to the national economy.”

He added that in the first nine months of 2019, the total nights spent by tourists reached 10.7 million nights, while the average stay length hit 3.4 nights per tourist, a 20.5 percent increase.
