Six new bus routes launched in Bahrain

Your commute could be about to get a whole lot easier thanks to six new routes across Bahrain that have been launched by the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications.

New destinations include Bahrain Bay, Sitra, Karbabad and Nabih Saleh. Top tourist spots the Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park and Al Areen Wildlife Park can also now be reached by bus.

Her Excellency the Assistant Undersecretary for Land Transport Affairs, Nada Yousif Abdulatif, stated, “The public bus network is one of the Ministry’s main strategic projects which aims to provide attractive and efficient alternatives to Bahrain’s transport demands.

“We are committed to continually upgrading the public transportation system in a sustainable manner to enhance the passenger experience.”

The changes are part of the Kingdom’s Economic Vision 2030 and destinations were chosen in response to requests from citizens, residents and municipal councils.

In the past year, the public transport network has grown by 10 percent, and the ministry is working to improve the efficiency and quality of services.

Bahrain’s metro system is set to be launched by 2023 at the earliest.

The first phase of the project will see metro lines running from the airport and the Bahrain causeway, and Juffair to Budaiya.
