Bahrain's Manama Souq could be getting WiFi

Wandering around Manama Souq is undoubtedly one of the top things to do in Bahrain, and navigating the winding streets of the traditional market could be about to get a whole lot easier.

Tourists who don’t want to pay the astronomical prices usually involved when using data abroad could soon hop onto a proposed WiFi network.

The Manama Souq Development Committee are considering installing the network as part of a masterplan.

Under the proposed plans, storefronts and signage would be changed and the façades of old buildings in the area would be restored.

Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) chief executive officer Nader Al Moayyed said, “We are working closely with various government and private entities to ensure the timely completion of the Manama Souq Development Project to the highest standards, in order to provide both merchants and visitors with the optimal experience.

“We look forward to completing this project which will preserve the long-standing history of Manama Souq by upgrading the area with modern additions.”
