Volunteers collected more than 400 kg of rubbish from Arad beach this weekend.

The clean-up, organised by Cleanup Bahrain, saw dozens of people picking up waste for an hour and a half on Friday (January 24).

In that time, they collected 412.5 kg of general waste, plus 12.5 kg of plastic.

Cleanup Bahrain hope to raise awareness about environmental issues in the community and influence young people to get involved and make a difference.

Back in September, the collective organised clean-ups at 12 different beaches, collecting a total of 10,000 kg of rubbish.

Last year, it was revealed that Bahrain was considering banning plastic fishing nets in favour of older methods used before the invention of plastic.
