The Bahraini flag was projected onto the Swiss Matterhorn in a show of solidarity during the coronavirus pandemic last week.

Light artist Gerry Hofstetter has been illuminating the mountain in the Alps with a different flag every day since March 24.

On April 17, Hofstetter projected each of the GCC country’s flags onto the 4,478m-high peak.

He wrote, “Many Arab countries suffer from the coronavirus. We give hope and strength to the people of the GCC countries and the many expats living there: The Matterhorn shines for them tonight.

“Together we will overcome the crisis.”

The mountain village Zermatt has been sharing the pictures on its website here.

According to the website, “Zermatt is convinced: as strong as the Matterhorn, so strong must the society stand together, be anchored and let the storm pass. Regarding this symbol, the mountain will be illuminated daily from Tuesday, 24th March 2020 - weather conditions permitting.”
