Bahrain’s coronavirus app identifies more than 200 active cases

Bahrain’s coronavirus contact tracing app has helped identify more than 200 active cases since its launch.

BeAware, which launched at the end of March, traces where active cases have been and alerts anyone in close proximity.

So far, 1,807 individuals have been told they may have come into contact with an active case and been advised to take a coronavirus test. Of these, 227 have tested positive for COVID-19.

The app, which is available on iOS and Android, has been downloaded by 545,000 people so far.

Bahrain’s Ministry of Health has given out e-bracelets to those who have been told to self-isolate which traces where they have been.

The app can also be used to book end-of-isolation swabs to ensure you are no longer an active case.

The news comes after Bahrain built a brand new ICU field hospital for coronavirus patients in Sitra in just two weeks.

It has 152 beds and 152 respirators, with 55 doctors and 250 nurses on staff.
