We chat to the guys and girls filling the dancefloor at Davy Crockett's

7 Senses

We’re launching a new feature this month, chatting to the bands who perform at some of the island’s best venues. To kick off we went to meet 7 Senses, the guys who fill the dance floor at Davy Crockett’s at the Diva Hotel – and their alter-egos, Non-Sense, who get the karaoke going on Monday nights. We asked them all the same questions:

Name: Charlie Pike
Age: 31
From: French/English/Canadian (Ed: nothing like hedging your bets there Charlie)
Instrument: Guitar, I’ve been playing since I was 13 or 14
Fave song to perform? Killing in the name of – Rage Against the Machine
And to listen to? Little wing Hendrix or Stevie Ray? Ooh that’s a hard one, probably Stevie Ray
Tell us something no-one else knows about you?
I love to cook, I like making ital, it’s a vegetable stew.

Jonathan Racine Menard
French Canadian

It depends on the mood but probably Waiting for the world to change, John Mayer, it always puts a smile on my face.
Fragile by Sting
Hmm, that’s a hard one, we all know everything about each other.

Jonathan Chartrand Carbonneau

Vocals, a little percussion and… spoons (Ed: don’t see a lot of call for that at DC’s)
Seven days by Craig David
An Englishman in New York by Sting
You’d never know it from my performance but I’m actually really shy and quite anti-social.

Venny Purbawati Ardi

Vocals – I’ve been singing since I was about 7
Led Zeppelin Rock and Roll
I will always love you, Celine Dion
I also design clothes
How did you get together with the rest of the band?
I was asked to help when their other singer couldn’t make a New Year’s Eve performance when they were playing in Indonesia and I’ve been with them ever since.

Eric Houle

Bass, since the age of 14
Du Hast, Ramstein
I can see clearly now by Holly Cole
I’m a big sci fi fan.

Myriam Seguin (Mimi)

Singer, I’ve only been singing since I was 25, I previously studied flute
Someone like you, Adele
I want your sex, George Michael
I don’t know how to sneeze – every time I do it I hurt the back of my neck, Oliver’s been trying to teach me.

Oliver Cote
French Canadian

Keyboards and vocals, I’ve been playing the piano since I was 5
Thunderstruck, ACDC to both perform and listen to
I’m a rubbish sneeze teacher.

Other stuff we need to know: Our most requested song is Bohemian rhapsody, we do all the different voices and we’re very good at it, now people know we can do it, it’s become our most requested song.
On Monday’s we don stupid costumes to take on our alter-egos to become Non-Sense, we figure people are sometimes a bit afraid to make a fool of themselves by getting up to sing, so if we look silly too it helps them take the plunge. We even have Monday night names – Tiger on keys, Garth on guitar, Ringo on drums, Tricky Dicky on bass and Golden V, Javis and Pink U on vocals.
