Vegan in Bahrain 2020: Plant-based sustainable restaurant opens in Seef

If you’re a vegan who lives in Bahrain, you’ll probably know very well how long it takes for the latest plant-based products to make it over to the Kingdom.

While cities like London, New York and even Dubai are drowning in vegan foodstuffs, it can feel like a mission to find Quorn, MorningStar Farms, or even just a decent burger at a restaurant over here.

But now a plant-based sustainable restaurant has opened at Al Aali Mall in Seef, and you can get everything from nuggets and hot dogs to burgers and ice cream.

Eighty Thirty has collaborated with Beyond Meat, meaning even your non-vegan friends won’t miss the taste of meat.

The name is a reference to the fact that the planet’s forests account for eighty percent of terrestrial organisms, and cover thirty percent of the earth's landmass – but every year we lose 18.7 million acres of forests.

To lessen the restaurant’s impact on the environment, the eatery is focusing on using local products in combination with plant-based substitutes which use less water, land and energy to produce, and create fewer Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

Staff have also adopted plastic-free practices, using an internal filtration system instead of bottled water.

And, for every Tree of Life-inspired dessert ordered, the restaurant will plant a tree in the Amazon rainforest.

We can’t wait to try it.
Daily 11.30am-11.30pm. Gate 3, Al Aali Mall, Seef (1740 4777).
