It’s no secret that one of our favourite restaurants on the island is contemporary European spot Masso by Susy Massetti (often mistaken for an Italian but we beg to differ). As a past recipient of not one but two prestigious Time Out Bahrain Restaurant of the Year accolades, it’s no surprise then that the food here is phenomenal.
The carefully curated menu boasts a selection of small and large plates – and these plates are perfect for sharing (even if it’s just because you don’t want to limit your options). Amazing international ingredients from the land and sea feature – North Atlantic diver’s scallops,
Black Angus beef tenderloin and plenty (and we mean plenty) of truffles – alongside a selection of local produce that’s been hand-picked fresh from the hotel’s very own Budaiya-based garden.
These simple ingredients are transformed into rich and complex dishes which is why the foodies come back, night after night.
Enjoy the bustling vibe and trendy atmosphere while indulging in one of the restaurant’s signature dishes, our favourite of which is the cedar ‘planked’ Scottish salmon fillet. A hulking great piece of perfectly cooked, fresh pink salmon is slathered in an incredibly flavourful mustard and apricot glaze, accompanied by a simple organic rocket salad.
The secret is that the fish has been cooked on a cedar plank, which is soaked in water for 12 hours and placed on the heat so it grills, steams and smokes all at the same time. As the water dries out, the wood starts smouldering and the resulting smoke infuses the fish with a unique cedar essence. We dare you not to finish every bite.
