New York Café

NYC inspired café has speciality coffees and cakes

Time Out Says

Appearances can be deceptive: this rather forlorn-looking place may have the air of a US coffee chain, but the New York coffee shop, opened by two caffeine-crazed American expats in 1999, is actually still the only one of its kind – and the standard of their brews is hard to beat. Plus, there’s presumably no risk of them forging a multi-album distribution deal with Paul McCartney/Alanis Morisette anytime soon, which is good news for your eardrums as you gaze over the (mural of a) New York skyline.

During the working day, it’s quite possible you’ll be the only customer in the café, but don’t let that put you off: the staff are polite and friendly, and they really know their coffee, which is served piping hot in robust glass tankards, or in paper cups if you’re on the go. If you’re having a hippy moment, try the spiced chai coffee, flavoured with honey, ginger and cinnamon. Lord knows if it’s as wholesome as it sounds, but it tastes like TLC on rollerskates.
