Ornate restaurant serves up good value Gulf food

Time Out Says

Hidden away in the back streets of Adliya, the ornate wooden doors of Parsian swing ponderously open to reveal a strikingly contrasting decor to the sand-blasted tan that dominates the surrounding neighbourhood. Glittering place settings and stained glass windows give the restaurant a slightly surreal edge, and as you take a seat, the smells emanating from the kitchen will have your stomach growling.

Start with the pars salad, a fresh and tasty selection of vegetables served with the chef’s special sauce – a mysteriously tangy and creamy dressing that warrants a larger serving than you’ll receive. For your main, dig into the chelo changeh, delicately spiced boneless lamb that flakes apart, perfectly complemented by a variety of aromatic rice and thick, rich bread. The staff flit around the restaurant asking if you want anything else, if you are alright, if you are enjoying Bahrain and other pleasantries, and are constantly on hand to explain the bewildering selection of dishes to you.

Faloudeh – it turns out – is frozen Iranian noodles served with a choice of syrups. The texture of the noodles is a little peculiar, but when drenched in the delicious lemon syrup, they make a refreshing end to a fantastically flavoursome meal.
