Summer travel plans and Bahrain’s seasonal heat makes staying fit far more difficult. But it doesn’t have to be, as Craig Heslop of Tribal Fitness has three simple methods which will help you maintain that beach body all season
If you’re anything like us at Time Out Bahrain, then you’re easily distracted by the irresistible temptations of summer travel, such as staying up late and sleeping in, indulging in ‘naughty foods’ and ignoring that inner voice which tells you to hit the gym.
Once you’re back in ‘normal routine’ mode, you find it hard to settle in to the swing of things and it takes far longer to kick start your healthy life again. Ironically, the best and least stressful option is to just keep it up over summer! Just follow the simple advice of Craig Heslop, founder of Bahrain’s Tribal Fitness, and you’ll stay fit all summer long…
For many of us, the summer is a time of guilt when we undo all the year’s hard work done in the gym. On return back to Bahrain, a mental Mount Everest of fitness awaits us. It seems too hard to get re-started and this process is replicated year on year. In my opinion, this a flawed mind-set that brings unnecessary stress and anguish. If this relates to you, let’s discuss three methods to maintain great fitness throughout the summer…
‘Walkabout’ is our baseline movement principle at Tribal Fitness. It involves a thirty minute walk in the morning and one in the evening. It is a great way to burn off excessive body fat and it can be done anywhere. You don’t need a gym and it doesn’t cost you a cent. Other benefits include improved joint mobility, greater social bonds with the family and optimal vitamin D levels. Walking is an activity that can be done by anyone and getting out into nature is awesome!
It is obvious that movement contributes to one’s fitness but many neglect the importance of consistent and great sleep. Prioritising quality sleep is crucial to optimal health, fat loss and stress release. Between the hours of 10pm and 2am, a burst of growth hormone is released in your sleeping body. This is like a free shot of the best supplement money could buy. If you are not asleep by 10pm, you are missing out on easy fat loss, muscle building and immune system repair. At Tribal Fitness, we call natural circadian rhythm ‘Living by the Light’. We get outside and move throughout the day and we sleep well at night. By aligning ourselves with the cycle of the sun, we return to a lifestyle that is natural to our species.
Lastly, the summer is a great opportunity to do something new and adventurous. When was the last time you tried a new activity? Spending the summer in a different biome to our desert home enables us to tackle new terrains and appreciate nature. Have you ever been rock climbing, white water rafting or hiking? The summer months spent away may just be the perfect time to try something exciting.
I dare you to take on a new challenge and get out of your comfort zone. You can even start physically preparing for it today. If you have children and you take them camping, fishing or climbing, you will definitely be up for ‘Parent of the Year Award’! Creating priceless memories is another reason to try something adventurous.
Please don’t waste energy feeling guilty about the summer. Enjoy a family walk every day, sleep like a baby and add plenty of adventure. Follow these three simple methods and you will have a fantastic experience, and you will also stay fit for summer!
