Five brilliant things to try in Bahrain this weekend

There are plenty of new things to try out in Bahrain these weekend, from afternoon tea to cooking classes…

Bon Jovi tribute night
While the real Bon Jovi are busy rocking cities across Brazil and Peru this September, you should Keep the Faith - you can still get a taste of the New Jersey-born band in Bahrain this Friday thanks to tribute band Born Jovi. Headed up by Adrian Marx, who has impersonated the singer for 19 years, the band are coming to the Grand Yard House for the second year in a row.
Free (women). BHD5 (presale, men). BHD7 (on the door, men). Fri Sept 6, 8pm-2am. Grand Yard House, Road 2414, Juffair (3625 5195).

Chocolate-themed afternoon tea
Want to indulge your sweet tooth this weekend? Head to The Palm Lounge at the Jumeirah Royal Saray for an afternoon tea where you can enjoy chocolate pastries and dark, milk and white chocolate fondues. We’re already drooling.
BHD25 (two people). Sat-Wed, 1pm-7pm. Thu-Fri, 1pm-8pm. The Palm Lounge, Jumeirah Royal Saray, King Mohammed VI Avenue (7770 7070).

Fiesta Latina party
If Latin music is your jam, head down to Cellar59 at ART Rotana this Friday for a performance by the resident band Soneando. Dance the night away to classic tunes alongside modern ones from DJ Boudi.
Free. Fri Sept 6, 9pm-2am. Cellar59, ART Rotana, Amwaj Islands (1600 0111).

Pirates of the Caribbean brunch
If five Pirates of the Caribbean movies weren’t enough to satisfy your love for all things nautical, head down to Hotel Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa for a themed brunch this Friday. Prepare to experience dishes from across the seven seas while your kids enjoy fun games and activities.
BHD25 (selected beverages), BHD12.5 (children age six to 12). Fri Sept 6, 12.30pm-4pm. Hotel Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa, Zallaq Highway (3888 5789).

The Art of Cooking class
Want to become the next Gordon Ramsay or Marco Pierre White, but don’t have the time to spend hours slaving away in the kitchen? Head down to the Gulf Hotel’s cooking class on Saturday morning where you’ll be given a hands-on cooking experience with Chef Ding. You’ll spend an hour and a half learning all the essentials for making a fantastic meal.
BHD18. Every Sat, 10.30am-noon. Gulf Hotel, Road 3801, Manama (1771 3000).
