Handy apps to help you navigate the Holy Month

Time In

App developers have created a whole host of products esigned to help you get the most out of Ramadan. We’ve rounded up a few of our favourites.

Ramadan Kareem
Popular Islamic publisher Darussalam offers this app to help people plan their days during the Holy Month. It has a useful checklist for daily activities, a helpful dos and don’ts list and definitions of terminology used during Ramadan. The mosque finder function is another good addition.
Free, with additional in-app purchases possible. Available for Windows phone.

Find Mecca

This digital GPS allows you to find the Qibla from anywhere in the world by using the compass capability on your phone or tablet. Use the augmented reality mode to ‘see’ Mecca on-screen in the correct direction. Since it’s based on GPS, it’s very accurate – so no more estimating what direction you should be facing. It also lists the prayer times.
From Dhs7.30. Available for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android.

I like fasting
This one is aimed at kids and features Alif, a little girl who loves to fast. She explains why she fasts, and educates users on other values that are important throughout Ramadan. With fun, interactive activities, stories that children can read alone and more complex tales for an adult to help out with, this one will help children get into the excitement of the Ramadan season.
Dhs3.69. Available for iPad.

Ramadan 2014

Re-launched for 2014, this popular app is a one-stop-shop for all things Ramadan. Packed full of general knowledge tips like the basics of Ramadan, what to read and how to look after your health when fasting, it also lists all five prayer timings by country and even has a handy alarm you can set to alert you to each one.
From Dhs7.30. Available for iPhone, iPad and Android.

Eid Gift Guide
SpeakFeel Corporation has come up with a handy app for those struggling to think of appropriate Eid gift ideas. With plenty of images, product descriptions and information on various suitable gift options, this app will help continue your family’s tradition
of Eid gift giving.
