Free repackaging service at Bahrain International until end of October

Last week we revealed that baggage restrictions were being introduced at Bahrain International Airport.

And now airport staff are repackaging irregular shaped items for free until the end of the month, to help with the transition as the new rules come into force.

Since Tuesday October 1, round and irregular shaped items, including those tied with rope, are no longer allowed in the baggage handling system.

Other luggage with long or loose straps are also banned to stop items becoming caught and causing delays.
In a post announcing that the changes had come into effect, staff at Bahrain International revealed there would be an “amnesty period” for all irregular shaped luggage.

They wrote, “No charges apply during the amnesty period which will [last until the] end of this month, then charges will apply on the boxes only if needed.”

It comes as the expanded road network outside the airport opened in Muharraq earlier this week.

The changes are all part of improvement works on the airport as it prepares to open a new terminal in March 2020 which will be able to accommodate 14 million passengers a year.
