Bahrain introduces third PCR test for travellers

You will now be tested on the fifth day after arrival

Arrivals in Bahrain will now be tested for coronavirus three times, the Ministry of Health has announced.

Currently, those entering the Kingdom are swabbed on arrival, and must self-isolate until the results come back negative. They are then free to move about as they wish, but will be re-tested ten days after arrival.

Now arrivals will also be tested on day five after entering Bahrain.

The new rules will come into effect from Monday February 22.

As part of the announcement, the Ministry of Health also revealed that the cost of the mandatory PCR tests would be reduced to BHD36 from BHD40.

The new rules also apply to travellers coming across the King Fahad Causeway. Drivers using the causeway can either take a test on arrival, or provide a negative test dated no more than 72 hours before entering the Kingdom.

Those who test positive at any point will be contacted by the Ministry of Health for the next steps.

The news comes after the UK-Bahrain travel corridor closed last month.

Under previous rules, arrivals from Bahrain were exempt from the ten day self-isolation requirement, but the UK government has now removed all exemptions.

Only those who take a test on the fifth day after arrival and test negative will be able to shorten the self-isolation period.
